Bread Pudding Recipe

Bread Pudding

Ingredients:

  • 1 Loaf French bread
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 quart milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 Tbsp. Butter
  • 1 cup golden raisins
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon

RUM SAUCE:

  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1 cup 2% milk
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 or 3 oz. bourbon

Directions: Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Break French bread into about 8 pieces. In a large bowl, soak bread in milk until well soaked. Mix the bread around before adding the next ingredients. Beat the egg, sugar, cinnamon and vanilla well then add to bread mixture. Next add the raisins and stir mixture well. Grease a baking pan with butter; pour the mixture into the pan. Place the pan with the pudding in another shallow pan with about an inch of water in it. Bake at 325 degrees for about 40 minutes or until pudding is firm. When cooked take out of oven and allow to cool.

SAUCE: In a double boiler, put milk, sugar and butter. When hot, dissolve cornstarch in very small amount of water. Also, add about 2 tablespoons of hot mixture and mix well. Add this to hot milk and stir until thick. Remove from fire, and then add bourbon. If you have some left over, you can warm bread pudding, but do not rewarm sauce. The bourbon will evaporate.
