Jazz Guitarist Joe Carmouche is one of Houston's most popular and in-demand performers. Joe was nominated Best Jazz Artist at the 2005 Houston Press Music Awards. In 2004, Joe received a Certificate of Congressional Recognition from Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee in honor of his musical accomplishments. Also in 2004, Joe was awarded Outstanding Entertainer by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. His performances at Scott Gertner's Skybar on Wednesdays has contributed greatly to his popularity as an instrumental artist. Since 2002, Joe has performed at The Skybar's Wednesday After Work Escape for one of Houston's longest running jazz gigs (4 years). In addition to a busy performance schedule (150 concerts a year!), Joe has released three CDs - After Hours, A Touch of Jazz, and Art of the Groove. A Touch of Jazz was awarded Best Jazz Album at the 2001 Texas Music Library Awards. Joe has backed such artists as Joe Sample, Kenny Burrell, Kirk Whalum, Najee, Mikki Howard and Everette Harp. Joe has also opened for Boney James, Michael Franks, Marion Meadows, Norman Brown, Peter White, Doc Powell, and Maze featuring Frankie Beverly.
